The MNY Spotlight

Jillian Eversole, Lifestyle Blogger

This week's Tastemaker Tuesday features Jillian Eversole, a lifestyle blogger based in Charleston, South Carolina.

Introduce yourself!Ā

Hi! My name is Jillian Eversole and I write the lifestyle blog, Rhyme & Reason. I live in sunny Charleston, SC with my husband, son, and two labs. I pinch myself every day that we get to call Charleston home and that I have such a wonderful little family full of so much big love!

What characteristics (cultural, personality, etc.) make you unique?Ā

I am most certainly a people person. I love people! I love being around my family and friends and I genuinely enjoy meeting new people and expanding my circle. I am always of the ā€˜the more the merrierā€™ mindset so I think Iā€™m unique in the people I keep. I have so many interesting, creative, thoughtful people around me who I learn from every day. I cherish my relationships!

What motivated you to start Rhyme & Reason?Ā

I used to be an elementary school teacher so I would spend every day giving my all to a classroom full of adorable, curious, growing 5-year-olds. When my work day would wrap up, I yearned for something that I could do for myself that would keep me feeling inspired and challenged in different ways than I was as a teacher. Writing Rhyme & Reason gave me just that!Ā

What is the most rewarding aspect about being a new mom?Ā

I have two answers to this question. First, my sonā€™s smile when he sees me. I donā€™t think Iā€™ll ever get over the way his smile upon seeing me makes me feel! Secondly, all the baby milestones. There are so many of them and they happen so quickly that I try to cherish each one. My son, Rowan, just started sitting on his own and it has been so fun to watch him see the world through his new vantage point. He really is the light of my life!

What are some of your favorite getaways in Charleston, South Carolina that you recommend?Ā

Great question! There are so many. A few of my Charleston musts are a meal on the patio at 167 Raw, a cocktail on the porch at Zero George, sunset on the roof at The Dewberry, a walk along the Battery, and a bike ride South of Broad.

Since your last reading list posts, do you have any new favorite books that you would like to recommend as great reads?Ā

Why yes! I recently read a few books that Iā€™ve really enjoyed: Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren, Beneath a Scarlet Sky by Mark Sullivan, and The Guest List by Lucy Foley. The three books couldnā€™t be more opposite of each other but I couldnā€™t put any of them down when I was reading them! Also, my Dad, Paul Attaway, recently had his first novel published titled Blood in the Lowcountry. If you love family dramas, then youā€™ll really enjoy it!

What draws you to the Mestiza brand?Ā

What doesnā€™t draw me to the brand!? Ha! In all honesty, I love Mestiza because not only does the brand design beautiful dresses but it is a brand I believe in and can feel proud to wear. I am always drawn to female run brands and, in this case, I love that Mestiza is run by women because they understand the female figure and design dresses that look gorgeous on every woman. I also really admire their mindset that dresses in our closets should be special pieces that live many lives and can be passed down to the next generation of women. No fast fashion. I admire that and try to fill my closet with pieces like that.Ā

How do you like your Mestiza piece?! Any details on how it fit or made you feel?Ā

I couldnā€™t love my Mestiza Stephanie Bow Dress more! The silhouette is so flattering with the sweetheart neckline and cascading ruffle. Donā€™t even get me started on the statement bow! Itā€™s perfection. I feel confident and happy wearing it. I canā€™t wait to safely wear the dress to a wedding we have this year!

Please share an inspirational tip to someone looking to follow your footsteps.Ā

My biggest piece of advice is to start now. It is never too late to start something and there is no better time than now. Time is so precious and it goes by before our very eyes. Donā€™t waste another day spent not pursuing your passions, learning the new hobby youā€™ve been talking about, starting the new business youā€™ve been dreaming about, etc. You canā€™t succeed until you start!
