The MNY Spotlight
Meet Alexa Scanlon, Founder of Crescent Collection
I'm originally from Short Hills, NJ, a nearby suburb to the City.
After a career at Ralph Lauren in buying and merchandising, I left the corporate world to have kids and took a few years off to stay home with them. In 2018 I was inspired to host a shopping party at my apartment for a dear friend launching a new line of handbags. That little gathering was to date, still one of their best shows. I loved being back in sales-mode and promoting a brand I was passionate about. From there, I went on to host a few other shows/parties in my home before I got the idea to turn it into a business. The brands I was championing wanted to keep working together to meet new customers that they couldn't otherwise reach. Customers, conversely, loved getting an early peek at emerging brands, meeting the founders, and seeing the details in person .... It felt like the perfect marriage. Crescent Collection was born out of my love of shopping and discovering new things. I also love the intimate setting of being in someone's private home. I think both customers and brands appreciate this setting to meet and learn from each other.

The brand discovery process is very emotional for me. I can tell fairly quickly whether a brand will fit within my vision for a show. I often think of a theme for a show and work to find designers for that theme - my favorite to date was called "city goes country" where we brought 10 Texas based designers to NYC, partnered with Spotify for the best in country music and served ranch water and tacos. I will also only work with brands that I authentically love and want to reach for in my own closet. It makes the sales part a breeze when I truly love what they have to offer.
There are so many women whose style I admire. I am a bit of a more is more, color on color, wear your mood on your sleeve-type person, so I think back to Diane Vreeland....or women of today with impeccable style like Aerin Lauder, Alessandra Branca, India Hicks, or JJ Martin.
My personal style is joyful, colorful, whimsical, classic with a twist.

Before I committed to fashion, I considered a career in politics and interned at the State House in Boston, MA for the Governor and at the US Capitol for a congressman from MN! Fashion is definitely more fun!
I had met Louisa socially through friends a little while ago, our kids go to similar schools uptown. I was drawn to her warmth and elegance and some of her closest friends are mine so I knew she would be lovely to work with. When I saw Mestiza online I knew it was a brand I would love to have join the Collection. Their spring line this year, as in past seasons, is chock full of joyful, colorful, fabulous prints that instantly make you want to travel to Palm Beach, Saint Barths, or the South of France. I was thrilled that calendars aligned and we were able to partner together for a spring show to get the lovely ladies of NYC ready for all of the spring events we have on the calendar. Many friends and clients bought dresses for first communions, weddings, or the Central Park Hat Lunch. I cannot wait to see them out in the wild.
I feel confident, fresh, and happy in Mestiza. I also think a Mestiza piece will set you apart wherever you wear it. I got the Pacifica dress and matching capelet for my cousin's wedding by the water in June. I think it will be a show-stopper!
