Introduce yourself!

Hi There! My name is Beth Chappo. I’m a wife, mother of 3, transplant Hoosier,  and creator of Bethchappo.com, a fashion and lifestyle blog established in 2012.

Beth wears the Cataleya Midi Dress. Shop the blue ombre seashell print in the Orzo Mini Dress!

Your cookbook, The Village, boasts the recipes and anecdotes from the women who raised you…can you share any fashion tips you may have received from these special women?

My Aunt Morey believed in expressing herself through her fashion choices. She was the queen of the popped collar, Reebok sneaks with a pant suit, and loved eclectic pieces that remained timeless. She knows I’d raid her closet in a skinny minute. Her fashion fearlessness and unique meets quirky style have undoubtedly inspired my choices.

You’ve been a blogger since the rise of the blog. What changes have you noticed in the blogging world? What are your favorite apps or gadgets to use while creating your content?

Goodness What hasn’t changed? The landscape has completely evolved since I started blogging 11+  years ago. Gone are the days where you wake up and check out your favorite blogger’s website and leave feedback in their comment section -  now it’s their Instagram or TikTok. Heck even the title “blogger” has changed. For the record, I’m not a fan of the word influencer and still refer to myself as a blogger…old habits die hard I suppose. I think what I've come to realize is change is inevitable, you have to be willing to evolve and adapt where it suits your brand, things ebb and flow and don’t feel pressured to hop on every new app/trend if it doesn’t feel organic. This may explain why I have yet to fully adopt TikTok…i know i know…my daughters can’t believe it. PS: Canva is one of my favorite tools for graphics.

Who is your favorite style icon? What advice do you have for someone looking to develop their personal style?

It’s funny because I LOVE color and bold prints and yet the style I’m most drawn to is neutral and minimal. I find myself following a ton of French style accounts - they just have this ease about their style…it’s so beautiful and timeless. My personality requires more color but I have such an appreciation for classic, modern, and neutral. Princess Diana’s style in the 80’s and 90’s will forever be a favorite of mine. The popped collars, the pleats, the sneakers, the effortlessness...it’s perfection. I also love the risks Zendaya takes on the red carpet…so modern and unique and I don’t think I’ve ever seen her have a ‘miss’. And good grief Magot Robbie is absolute perfection with this Barbie PR Tour - the girlieness, the color, the glam, the nostalgia. I have been glued to her stylists’ pages. I love Jennifer Connely’s style on the red carpet...it’s always very modern, unique, and polished…I think as I’ve aged my style has evolved more with what is most flattering on my figure…I’d say that’s a good tip, right?

What’s one thing you’re looking forward to the most this summer?
Being a Florida native who grew up on the boat and beaching it, I JUST LOVE SUMMER. Definitely my favorite season. I love the slower pace. I love my kids being home. I love the relaxed evenings. I love the weather. I love grilling outside…I love golden hour swims in our pool. I just love being with the people I love and slowing things down a notch.

As a self-proclaimed 1980s lover, looking at Mestiza’s Summer Collection, what would you wear to an 80s-themed beach party?

Oh this is easy, the Pomodoro Caftan a la Mrs. Roper from Three’s Company (I’m fully aware I’m totally dating myself), a show I watched religiously with my older brother Jarrod after school. Man was she an icon….add her to my style icon list! Big bold jewelry, more is more, vibrant colors, you name it!

Whether you are running errands or attending an event, what is a fashion accessory that you cannot leave your home without?

My Roxanne Assoulin bracelets. I attended an event last month and forgot to put them on and felt naked the entire night. Oh and Neubrow brow serum….beauty accessory but a necessary one nonetheless.

What draws you to the Mestiza brand? How does your Mestiza piece make you feel?

Unique, standout, feminine, beautifully tailored pieces that are infused with personality! When I wore my Mestiza dress I felt a sense of confidence and ease…a winning combo in my book!

What’s the best advice you could give to someone who wants to follow in your footsteps?
Oh I could write a novel on this...Just go for it! JUMP! My business model wasn’t perfected by any means when I started 11 years ago...but the passion, drive, and commitment was there. Stay consistent, don’t compare yourself to those around you, and stay true to YOU!!!! Authenticity won’t steer you wrong.
