The MNY Spotlight

Meet Coral Chung, Founder of Senreve

Introduce yourself!

I’m Coral Chung, Founder & CEO of Senreve. I’m a mother of two girls. Besides fashion, I love skiing and polo!

The word Senreve is derived from the French words for “sense” and “dream” - two dichotomies that communicate that you can have it all. Why is this philosophy important to you?

I think as women we’re often dictated by society, our parents, and other external pressures on who we need to be. In reality, we all wear many hats and sometimes those roles seemingly conflict on the surface level. I believe that we should not have to make these artificial tradeoffs.

You’ve achieved every fashion lovers dream – attending the Met Gala in 2019! (The theme was Camp: Notes on Fashion). Give us an inside scoop on what really goes on behind the curtains, and a tip for how to get invited!

It was a magical experience for sure. I loved all of the fashion, but also loved how everyone was so warm and friendly. All the ladies helped each other out in the bathroom including holding each other’s big skirts and assisting with makeup touch ups, etc. I loved the dramatic pink carpet and the long flight of stairs even though my feet were killing me! ( I was wearing 8 inch heels).

It’s very mystical in terms of ways to get the invite. I definitely think it’s important to get on Anna Wintour’s radar and her team. I started doing various events with the Vogue team as well as the Met team to get to know everyone.

If you were dressing for this year’s Met Gala’s theme, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”, and you had to wear Mestiza, which Mestiza dress would you wear and why?

I love the two piece dress because it’s so versatile and I think it feels very sleeping beauty and feminine. Also, there are so many after parties so it would be great to wear the top to those instead of changing the whole outfit!

When was the “aha moment” you saw traction with your business and knew you were onto something?

A few weeks after we launched we were already completely sold out of our products!!! Obviously it was extremely stressful, but we knew there was a lot of demand and we found product market fit.

How would you style Mestiza & Senreve together? Share with us a daytime look, and evening look!

I love Mestiza dresses for weddings and events. The dresses look amazing with our Aria Belt Bag and the new Mini Aria Elevee. I also think the styles look cohesive and has a quiet luxury aesthetic with our Cadence and Maestra bags.

The Carmen Mini in pink pairs perfectly with the Sampaguita Earrings and Senreve's Cadence Crossbody Bag

Who are some of your favorite style icons?

I love Audrey Hepburn who is so feminine, youthful and effortlessly chic. I love Carrie from Sex and the City also, she’s eclectic and adventurous and not afraid of experimenting with color.

As someone whose style is such a big part of your identity, how does your style appear in other aspects of your life?

I think style is the way I express myself and my creativity. It’s a foundational part of my identity in terms of my femininity and the energy I bring into the world. I am frequently conceptualizing designs and ideas in my head and it affects my mood and how I present myself.

What draws you to the Mestiza brand?

I love the quality and the thoughtfulness of the design! Each piece is versatile and well considered.

Coral wears the Dominique Gown

How are you styling each of the three looks possible in the Dominique Gown, and where are you wearing them?
I’m wearing the gown to a wedding in Paris, the opening gala of the ballet, and a black tie birthday party event!
