The MNY Spotlight

Meet Jodie Sweetin, Actress, Activist, Director, Podcast Host, and Mom

Introduce yourself!

I’m Jodie Sweetin, best known for playing “Stephanie Tanner” on both Full House and Fuller House. I’m also a mom, director, author, podcast host and there’s probably a few other plates I’m busy spinning as well, ha!

Mestiza creates iconic styles for iconic people, and who's more iconic than Stephanie Tanner in Full House?! How does it feel to be part of one of the most popular shows from the 90’s?

Knowing what Stephanie and The Tanner Family mean to so many people is such a huge honor. We have such an amazing and loyal fan base, not just in the US but truly all over the WORLD! They have really made this show so beloved through the decades and I never stop being proud of the work we did on that show and how many lives we were able to touch and how many memories we’re a part of. It’s wild!

What’s your favorite 90’s fashion trend?

My favorite 90’s fashion trend was definitely the slip dress and combat boot look. I always loved that mix of super soft and rebel mixed together.

What other projects have you been part of since Fuller House?

I have been very busy the last 5 or 6 years doing various holiday TV movies, a genre which is also loved by SO many people! I’ve done nearly 10 of those! I also had two seasons starring in and producing the series “Hollywood Darlings” with my good friends Christine Lakin (Step by Step) and Beverly Mitchell (7th Heaven) on PopTv. That was so fun and something much different than people have seen me in before. I also have hosted a parenting/comedy podcast for 5 seasons with my best friend, Celia Behar. I am definitely busy these days!

There are many similarities between your work with Girls Inc and Mestiza’s Heirloom Project, where each year Mestiza donates dresses to deserving high school seniors to give them a leg up in the next chapter of their lives. What first inspired you to help our younger generation of women?

I’ve always believed in the magic of feminine power, we can do ANYTHING! Now that I’m a mom to two girls, 14 and almost 12, I know how important it is to help young women tap into that power and self-confidence that they have. And to remember, that they deserve not only a seat at the table, but they also get to help decide what’s on the menu. I think teaching young women the tools to succeed and providing them with the supportive community they’re looking for, is one of the most critical things we can do for our future generation.

As a mother to two daughters, what lessons are you hoping to pass down to them?

I want my girls, Zoie and Beatrix, to know that they can do ANYTHING they set their mind to. That they stand up for themselves. And that they always are thinking of how to be helpful and of service to people. This is always my motto to my girls: “Do no harm, but take no s$*!” Haha

In your time off when the camera’s not rolling, where can we find you?

One of my favorite places to relax at home is my nice little hammock by my small pool. That’s my summertime nap spot, as long as it’s not TOO hot out.

You’ve had such an incredible career, what advice do you have for young people in the industry who want to follow in your footsteps?

I think for young (or any) people, one of the most important things to remember, is that: It’s ok to try and maybe not have things work out. Life is about constantly changing, learning and growing. So, if you’re looking to come into this business as a performer, don’t be afraid to try and try again. I’d say 80% of the entertainment business is good timing… so don’t get too discouraged right away.

What draws you to the Mestiza brand?

I absolutely love the vibrant feel of the Mestiza brand. It makes me feel bright, cheerful, adventurous! Also knowing the work you do with the Heirloom Project makes me really proud to support a brand that is doing good in the world!

How does wearing your Mestiza piece make you feel?

Mestiza makes me feel feminine, powerful and playful all at the same time!
