The MNY Spotlight

Meet Sara Roberts, Founder of Goldie Home

Introduce yourself!

Hi! My name is Sara Roberts and I am the Founder of Goldie Home - a table linens brand bringing “Art to the Table”. I am also a mother of two teenagers and I have been married to my husband, Alan, for 18 years this Summer!  I live on the Upper West Side of Manhattan and spent my career working in fashion, luxury and publishing until Covid hit and I decided to launch Goldie Home.

You started Goldie Home (named after your grandmother) in 2020, i.e., when all of the partying stopped, and socializing came to a halt you craved entertaining at least with your family and within your Covid “bubble”. This led you to start Goldie Home, featuring highly artistic table linens and more meant to keep the party going. Tell us about how you got the idea for the business.

Well, two things happened at the same time. In those very early days of Covid we were living in our NYC apartment with our children who were then 8 and 10 years old and cooking dinner became the highlight of the day. We would choose a recipe (and cocktail recipe) and spend the afternoon prepping. I quickly decided the table should be set with as much intention as we put into the meal prep.  And what I realized is that when the table was set, our family meal was so much more special. The conversation lingered longer, the mood was more relaxed, and we laughed more. This started our tradition of family dinners which 5 years later (kids are now teens) is still going strong.

The other thing that happened was my return to painting. I had put this on the side for a long time (working full-time, raising two kids, there just wasn’t much time for creativity). But in the Spring of 2020, the circumstances were different. I went deep into making Art and I found incredible joy in the process of not only painting but also setting and gathering around the table.

Simply put, I decided to fuse these two loves and build a brand focused around bringing Art to the Table. The result is Goldie Home. Each print starts with a painting that is then printed on 100% line and made in Portugal.

For those who are looking for a maximalist mix and match tablescape, what combos would you suggest?

As you can probably guess, I love a mix + match table and I designed the Goldie Home collection to lend itself to just that. Many of the trim colors correspond so when you go pattern x pattern, the combinations look seamless.

From the Summer 2025 Collection, my favorites are:

Porto Print in Olive + Green Marble

Lisbon Stripe + Rose Marble

Yellow + Blue Cross-Hatch.

What Mestiza dresses from our latest Summer Collection would you wear to your next dinner party as the hostess?

I was immediately drawn to the Bijou Halter Midi Dress. I love the colors, the shape, the cut around the shoulders, and of course the gold detail around the neck. It’s the perfect dress to host in. You can move easily and at the same time it’s sexy. I can’t wait to wear it all Summer. It will also be great for travel as it’s so easy to pack.

The brand is named after your grandmother. How do you weave her style/memory into the pieces that you design?

My maternal grandmother Goldie exuded light, warmth, and joy. I strive to infuse this ethos into my home brand. Dining and entertaining at home should feel both intentional and inspired, and, if possible, artistic. To carry the name through, both my daughter’s and niece’s middle names are also Goldie. The name Goldie plays a big role in our lives.

All of your pieces are hand-painted! Tell us a little bit about where you draw your inspiration from.

I draw inspiration from both my everyday life in NYC and from travels abroad. Whether it be the color of a building facade or an interior accent such as a rug or tiles, I constantly take mental notes and snap lots of pictures. I get a lot of ideas for colors and shapes from walking the streets of NYC and I draw a lot of inspiration from the way people dine in cafes in Europe, particularly the European tradition of dining al fresco.

You’ve run a handful of half + full marathons across different cities! What skills have you learned from completing a marathon that helps you in business?

I love this question. For me, there are so many parallels between running + starting a business. They both require a tremendous amount of grit and perseverance. The most important principle applies to both which is simply ‘believe in yourself, don’t stop’.  When you are at mile 8 or 9 in a half marathon or 18 or 19 in a full, it gets really hard and a small part of you wants to stop and give up but you don’t, you keep going. Something switches on that drives you to the finish line. It’s the same in running your own business, you need to locate the drive and belief to never quit. Also, I have great clarity when I run so some of the best ideas for Goldie Home come while I am out jogging.

What about the Mestiza brand draws you in?

The style screams celebration and party. You want to be at a party wearing Mestiza. The pieces look like they will make you feel beautiful while having fun and put you in a party mood. I also love that so many of the patterns are hand painted (just like Goldie Home).

How does wearing your Mestiza piece make you feel?

Cool and sexy.
