Introduce yourself!

I'm Sharm, the Editor-in-Chief of Average Socialite. We curate things to do, see, and eat around the world with a focus in NYC, LA & DC. Prior to Average Socialite, I practiced law for 20 years.

Where did you grow up and how did you end up in NYC?

I was born in Queens, moved to Long Island, then down south to Virginia where I finished college & law school before returning to the city.

What aspects from your past life as a lawyer have you brought into your routine as EIC of Average Socialite

I think the most important things I brought with me from my previous profession are negotiating skills and confidence.

You attend many events – which event has been your favorite and what made it so special?

The events I enjoy the most are charity events or galas and anything that helps uplift our community. After COVID we really started focusing on using our social media to help small businesses and restaurants that were struggling to survive in the city. I find these to be the most rewarding events and topics we cover.

As a business woman and a mother, what are some things you try to do in order to balance both aspects of your life?

Retiring from the corporate world and becoming my own boss has really helped me balance my work and home life. I am so fortunate to be in the position I am where I'm able to make my own hours and spend as much time as I need to at home.

Which style trends are you most looking forward to for the Fall?

Fall fashion is always exciting. I'm looking forward to sweater weather and am curious to see what new trends will emerge as Fall approaches.

Are there any special projects you are currently working on?

Average Socialite is a proud sponsor of the Disco & Drinks Night at the New York City Wine and Food Festival this October. This is our second year partnering with NYCWFF and we are really looking forward to it.

What draws you to the Mestiza brand? How does your Mestiza piece make you feel?

I love so many of the dresses at Mestiza that it was hard to choose one! I love how luxurious and feminine the material and cuts are. And who doesn't love a dress with pockets?

What’s the best advice you could give to someone who wants to follow in your footsteps?
Follow your passion. If you do what you love then you will find a way to make it work for you.
