The MNY Spotlight

Dressing Up For Any Occasion This Holiday Season

FROM THE DESK OF LOUISA RECHTER TAKACS

"Should I pivot?!"

I had just snapped a pic of my Mestiza sequin and chiffon Diana Midi Dress and sent it to the Mestiza Team group chat to ask them if I should try on a different look for the evening.Since the pandemic, New York seems to have gotten more casual in attire than it had in the past. I was wondering if I’d be overdressed for our Mestiza holiday party at Little Owl. It made me sad because I’ve always said, in New York you can wear gym clothes or a Cinderella ball gown and no one thinks twice!A resounding “NO! You HAVE to wear it!” blew up my text messages. The decision had been made and out the door I went, sparkles and all.Sometimes we tend to get in a routine, putting on the same uniform and doing what’s expected of us.  I can’t express the liberation I felt of letting go of any expectations and doing simply what makes me feel happy. And that night, it was being a little “extra.”As I hopped out of my taxi, I was delighted to be greeted by a group of fashionable women, decked in their holiday finest (all from Mestiza, of course).

THE MESTIZA TEAM ALL DRESSED UP FOR THE HOLIDAY SEASON! ALESSANDRA'S SON CARLOS, ALESSANDRA, LOUISA, RAELYN, EILEEN AND MAGGIE

I am so proud to call these women my teammates. Over the past year, they were thrown into the throes of start-up life, crossing barriers, making sacrifices all for the sake of fashion. Because at the end of the day, it’s nights like these - where we can let our fashion flag fly, eat, drink and be merry - makes it all worth it.Happy holidays everyone!
