The MNY Spotlight

Meet Blake Barham, Founder of Three Foot Blooms

Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from, and how did you get started in the floral business?

I am the owner and floral designer of Threefoot Blooms, based in my Mississippi hometown. I started my business in 2022 after a childhood friend asked me to design her wedding flowers, knowing my background from working in floral shops during high school and college. One wedding turned into many, and through word of mouth alone, my business grew.

I studied marketing at the University of Mississippi and began my career in the corporate world, balancing remote work with building my floral business on the side. After a year and a half of late nights and lunch-break meetings with brides, I took the leap to pursue florals full time and haven’t looked back since!

My love for flowers began early, but working under incredible mentors taught me that running a floral business takes more than having an eye for creativity. It takes grit, intention, and heart. With my business, every design is bespoke and deeply personal. I take pride in remembering my clients’ favorite blooms, colors, and milestones because to me, flowers should always tell a story.

What started as a side hustle has become a thriving, woman-owned business that I am so very proud of. We now design for weddings, events, and everyday occasions — flowers for every season of life.

Blake wears the Elliana Barong Midi Dress in Aquarelle Blue

You’re styling the Elliana Barong Midi Dress. What about this style drew you in?

I was immediately drawn to the blue and the florals. The colors remind me of the rich tones I gravitate toward in my floral work. The structure of the dress feels sophisticated, but there’s a softness to it too, much like a perfectly balanced arrangement. It’s timeless.

What arrangements do you love to build in the spring season?

I love playing with texture during the spring season. There are so many beautiful blooms and branches that add depth and give arrangements that instant wow factor. The spring season is such a popular hosting season, so I like to create centerpieces that feel layered, unexpected, and memorable. Cymbidium orchids, hanging amaranthus and ranunculus are two of my favorites this time of year. They instantly elevate a space and bring a little drama to the dining room table.

How do you approach spring entertaining décor, any tips for incorporating flowers into tablescapes or home styling?

Flowers should feel like an extension of the setting, not something that overpowers it. I love using low, loose arrangements so guests can see one another across the table, and layering in candles, fruit, or fresh greenery for warmth and texture. It doesn’t have to be overly designed. Even a few stems in bud vases can make the table feel elevated and inviting. I also love designing in my clients existing pieces. I think it’s super special to design florals in a family heirloom to tie it all together.

How do you see floral design and personal style intersecting?

I think floral design and personal style definitely go hand in hand. For me, both are about expressing who you are since my business is so tied to who I am as a person as well. My approach to flowers mirrors my approach to getting dressed. I love a classic look, but I’m always drawn to mixing in one unexpected piece that makes it unique and more “me”. That’s exactly how I approach flowers, too. I start with timeless shapes and tones, then add an element that feels a little surprising whether that’s a bold texture, an uncommon bloom, or a color that catches the light just right. It’s those small, unexpected details that make both fashion and florals feel personal and eye catching.

What advice would you give someone looking to create their own spring floral arrangement at home?

My biggest tip is not to overthink it (easier said than done). Start with a simple color palette and build from there. Incorporate your textures like berries, branches, or greenery from your yard for a more organic feel. Vary the heights of your flowers, and don’t worry about everything being perfectly symmetrical. And most importantly, have fun with it. Flowers are meant to be enjoyed, not stressed over.

As a founder, what has been the most rewarding part of growing Threefoot Blooms?

The most rewarding part has been watching something I built from the ground up grow into a business that connects with people in every season of life. From weddings and celebrations to moments of comfort and remembrance, flowers have a way of meeting people where they are and I think that’s so special. Every arrangement tells a story, and being part of those meaningful moments never loses its magic. This journey has also taught me so much about resilience, trust, and the beauty of community support. What started as a creative passion has become something that brings joy to others, and that’s the part that means the most to me.

How would you dress yourself in Mestiza’s Spring Collection for an upcoming vacation/ spring break?

I love accessorizing dresses when I’m on vacation! It’s similar to how I approach florals. Start with a beautiful base, then layer in thoughtful details to make it feel special and it makes packing way easier!

I love the Quinn Pintuck Midi Dress. It’s perfect for warmer weather. For daytime exploring I would pair with a raffia wide brim hate, big frame sunglasses and a simple gold sandal. For night, a sleek low bun, gold knitted kitten heels, gold hoops and a cream cashmere wrap.

A handful of our styles feature floral motifs. How would you match your tablescape blooms to your look?

As a floral designer, I’m always thinking about color and balance. Color theory plays such a big role in arranging so I love translating a color palette or design inspo such as a dress into tablescape florals.

With the Serena Midi Dress in Primrose Midnight, I’d lean into the richer tones in the print. Because the silhouette is sleek and elegant, I’d design a slightly moodier arrangement with layered textures. Deep plum ranunculus, raspberry garden roses, hellebore, and touches of airy greenery. I’d keep the arrangement low and lush in a classic compote so it feels refined and lets the colors mirror the depth of the dress without overwhelming the table.

For the Elliana Mini Dress in Garden Muse, the vibe feels lighter and more playful. I’d translate that into a fresh garden-style arrangement with soft peach ranunculus, butter yellow tulips, delicate spray roses, and loose spirea or sweet pea for movement. The goal would be something airy and effortless as if it was gathered straight from the garden.

For me, the magic is when the look and the table and florals come together through color and texture, without being overly matched. It creates a moment that feels thoughtful, layered, and naturally beautiful

What is one thing you wish your customers knew about the floral business?

I wish people knew how much goes on behind the scenes. There’s the early mornings, the ordering, the planning, and the conditioning before a single flower ever makes it into a vase. Floristry is equal parts art and logistics; it takes patience, creativity, and a whole lot of grit. When you own a creative business, it’s impossible to separate yourself from it because every arrangement feels like an extension of you. My ego and my identity are tied to what I create, which makes it both rewarding and vulnerable. It’s not just about arranging flowers; it’s about making an impact long after the flowers fade. It’s not always glamorous, but I wouldn’t trade this life for anything.

What do you love most about the Mestiza brand?

What I love about Mestiza is how effortlessly the brand blends timeless elegance with bold, modern details. Their pieces feel classic but never boring, much like how I approach floral design. I also admire that it’s a women -owned brand that celebrates heritage and craftsmanship in such a thoughtful way. Every design feels intentional and elevated which is exactly how I want my work to feel, too.

How do you feel when you wear Mestiza?

Wearing Mestiza makes me feel effortlessly elegant. The pieces feel timeless, like something you’ll love now and still treasure years from today.
