The MNY Spotlight
Meet Courtney Folk, Entrepreneur & CEO of Renewal Logistics
I have been an entrepreneur for 20 years. I have lived the personal challenges of scaling a business with limited resources, and have a strong desire to bring relief to the individuals leading fashion brands trying to do the same thing.
We started Renewal Logistics to give that time back to the owners and leaders of fashion brands so they can do what they do best- talk to their customers and develop more products to serve them. And we have found that since most of our clients are female founded, this also helps their personal lives, which let’s face it - are already busy enough!!
My husband, Bryan, and I are partners. I am the CEO and he is the COO/CTO. We live in Atlanta GA, and have an 11 year old son named Jack. We are avid travelers, and enjoy getting together with friends and family enjoying great food, wine, and music, and love watersports and tennis.

We got our start in this space 2013, working with giant brands like Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Tory Burch, and Carters, solving difficult problems that required quickly ramping scale and turn around time.
As an example, during Covid Carter’s needed us to convert 500,000 units of stock per week from in ‘store ready’ to ‘ecom ready’. Within 2 days we set up a new facility and had 250 workers folding, polybagging, stickering, pick packing, and shipping 100,000 items per day.
We have always been motivated by helping fashion brands in their time of need. Over the years we were incredibly fortunate to learn everything there is to know about fashion operations from these giant brands, and they are still wonderful clients.
In 2018 we realized that there was a vast community of underserved smaller brands that weren’t benefitting from a fulfillment partner, and they really needed one to scale. 3PLs save smaller brands on storage and shipping costs, and give back time to the owners and leaders in a company by relieving the burden of operating the storage and pick pack and ship operations. But most 3PLs don’t support the fashion space because the high SKU counts and constant seasonality changes overwhelm most 3PL operations, which makes it unprofitable business.
In our case though, because of our learnings from the best and largest brands, we uniquely knew how to tackle these problems. So in 2018 we started working with small and medium sized fashion businesses and have developed a suite of services to support them. We’re unique in that we really understand fashion, and we are an operational thought partner for our brand clients-it’s not a purely transactional relationship. We are always thinking about how to make the lives easier for our business owner clients, most of whom are female.
As a leader in order to scale, you really need to focus on future sales, but existing customers and employees need you, so that’s where your attention has to go. It’s a constant tension. Often as a result, sales are either done during personal time, or not done well, and this slows down growth and causes heartache. It’s such a predicament!
We experienced these struggles in our own business and the heartache that came from wanting and not having more personal time, wanting to grow at a faster pace and it not happening because the business operations were consuming all of our time and money. And we also experienced the incredible relief on the other side once we solved these problems. I knew there were tons of other female founders who felt the exact same way and it made my heart hurt for them, and so I am passionate about unlocking this for female founders to have a better life.
Women live stressful lives because they have to be so elastic to continually take on more, because they don’t have resources around them to support them properly. Resources that not only understand their plight, not just want to help, but actively step into helping and actually lighten their load. This requires not just a willingness to help, but great observation and listening skills to see the needs and solve the needs proactively. And women also are figuring out business for the first time! Don’t forget that it was as recent as the 1990’s when women were allowed to get their own business bank accounts without their husbands cosigning! Women haven’t had the incredible advantage of business knowledge being passed down to the next generation. Usually that knowledge is passed father to son, and mentorship has been from older men to younger men. So it’s always been my goal to be the resource for other women that I always wished I had.
I built the team I needed, and experienced how life is so much better on the other side, and I want to provide that team to others so they can experience that same relief, and unlock that same joy of unrestrained growth.
- If you’re not tapping into a real need, the market is saturated. So be unique, and find a niche, but make sure that niche is large enough to create a large enterprise.
- When it comes to team building, don’t settle, and trade up at every opportunity.
- My mom taught me early on if I put all my focus on the customer, the money will come. I honestly think this is the most important thing that has led to our success.
This is such a great question! I have always derived a lot of confidence from looking put together. If I look great, I feel great, and my day goes well. If I don’t look my best, I spend the day feeling insecure. That is why I am so passionate about fashion. Fashion is not just pretty clothes, it’s confidence. It also makes you stand out and become memorable. Which is extremely important in business.
Since I am so busy and have so many decisions to make, I look for a wardrobe with a tight color palette, and often grab jumpsuits, or dresses so that I don’t have too many decisions to make. My favorite shoes for instance are greek sandals that I can dress up or down and can walk miles in with no blisters. I just need things to be easy, that I can move in and that I don’t have to think about. I also only wear fabrics that don’t wrinkle.
I have had the great fortune to spend a lot of time in Europe, so my style is influenced by the timelessness of Italian and French fashion, and I think that has allowed me to avoid trends that don’t serve me, and informed my style goals to seek timeless simplicity. I keep it simple and timeless by sticking to colors, silhouettes and fabrics that are flattering. I fully believe in the European mindset that presenting yourself to the world in the best way will lead to you having the best day and life possible.
As a result of this, I hear all the time that I make a strong, positive, and memorable first impression, and I really never have trouble getting buy-in to my ideas or decisions, or closing new business. So I think style and personal presentation, when done right for me, builds instant trust and credibility.
I am taking this to a fun event in Round Top Texas in a couple of weeks, so I am styling it with a vintage Ralph Lauren studded western belt, cowgirl boots, and a fringed leather bag.
Later in the year I have an awards banquet in Palm Springs and will style it more sleekly and elegantly with pops of bright blue earrings, shoes and bracelets.
I love the quality!!!!! The choice of material, fit, color, and pattern are all so Intentional for each item, and are a testament to Alessandra’s incredibly discerning taste. Mestiza’s dresses allow you to stand out, but are so timeless and elegant, you’ll never look back in pictures and regret the choices. And while they speak to the trends, you’ll never be a fashion victim in their styles. They stand the test of time.
I also LOVE Alessandra and Louisa. I think they are great entrepreneurs who go about business the right way, building long term relationships built on authenticity, value, and trust. And they’re both so imaginative and fun!!!
