The MNY Spotlight
Meet Dr. Lara Devgan, Top New York City Plastic Surgeon
I am Dr. Lara Devgan, MD, MPH, FACS, a top board-certified New York City plastic surgeon renowned for my expertise, artistry, and commitment to delivering exceptional patient care. Yale-educated, Johns Hopkins Medical School-instructed, and Columbia/New York Presbyterian Hospital-trained, I have a unique approach that combines surgical precision with a classically trained artistic eye. My philosophy is “beauty is in the details”. Through this belief, my work centers around customized treatment plans that emphasize natural-looking results and harmonious proportions through millimeter-level changes. I am also the founder and CEO of the luxury medical-grade skincare line Dr. Devgan Scientific Beauty and the host of an acclaimed podcast, Beauty Bosses. Along with that, I am the mother of six children and live with my husband on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

I grew up in Malibu, California and since I was little my favorite things to do were drawing and painting. I grew up as a classically trained artist and I used to take art classes at the old Getty Youth Villa in Malibu. I have always loved the artistic component in plastic surgery. It’s surprising but tiny changes of a millimeter, or even less, can make a huge difference to somebody’s face and the balance and proportion of their facial features.
For a long time in plastic surgery, the focus was on ‘what is the most that we can do? What is the tightest, smoothest, or puffiest we can do?’ But now, in 2024, we are in the era of minimalism and subtlety. We’re really thinking – as a profession – what is the best we can do? Rather than the most. For facial beauty, this excites me as it means tolerating a couple of imperfections in the interest of global facial beauty. We’re not chasing wrinkles – or at least that’s not how I regard myself. I’m thinking about the structure and balance of the face.
Before I head out the door, I apply my SPF 44 BB Cream and Platinum Lip Plump with SPF 30 for a protected and seamless finish. For an extra beautiful effect around the eyes, I apply my Platinum Long Lash and Extreme Lengthening Mascara.
I wanted to create a new niche category — one that fell halfway between skin and beauty. We think of skincare products as our homework or medicine, while makeup is the fun part; this is a new generation of products that harnesses what we know about clinical medicine with ingredients that give you the emotion and joy of beauty. I’ve seen how transformative the right skincare regimen can be, not only in terms of physical appearance but also in terms of self-confidence and overall well-being.

To me, the best way in promoting longevity aging gracefully involves consistency in habits — adequate sleep, healthy nutrition, and an excellent skin care regimen. Hyaluronic Serum is a medical grade mixed-molecular weight collagen stimulator that not only improves the luster and glow of the skin, but also reduces the appearance of fine lines and environmental aging. This is a “desert island” product for me — I wear it every morning regardless of whether I’m doing full makeup for an event or headed barefaced into the operating room or school drop off.
Currently what excites me is that modern beauty is constantly evolving and now more than ever before, the beauty standards are changing to emphasize our own kind of beauty with less judgment, hatred, or toxicity. For facial beauty, this excites me as it means tolerating a couple of imperfections in the interest of global facial beauty. We’re not chasing wrinkles – or at least that’s not how I regard myself. I’m thinking about the structure and balance of the face.
If you know anything about me, you know that I absolutely love fashion and beauty. I care about fashion not just on the surface level of trying to fit in to other people's trends, but on a deeper level of having the ability to create an identity and express aspects of my personality through what I wear. This is why inclusive fashion is so important. Your style choices, and the choices you make with beauty send a message to the world, and no matter what body you live in, you should have the opportunity to craft the message that you are sending, and not have it be decided for you simply because of your body type or any other factor about you.
I see myself styling the Orzo Mini Dress with a pair of heels, a mini blue purse and a minimal skin look. I absolutely love it with the statement bow in the center back as it’s perfect to wear this summer!
I find the brand very inspiring as Mestiza embraces the co-founder’s shared Filipino-American ties through their designs in clothing. I think it is admirable that the brand creates versatile pieces that women of all ages can wear. Their fabrications are absolutely stunning and I am excited to wear the Orzo Mini Dress this summer in New York.
