Meet Jamie Tarence of Family Savvy! A lifelong Southern girl with a gift for effortless hosting, family-friendly recipes, and timeless style. See how she entertains with ease, plus her favorite Mestiza looks for every fall occasion.
Tell us a bit about yourself!
I am a Christian, wife of 35 years to Zane, mom to three daughters, and “Savvy” to two grand girls! Born and bred in Alabama, I am a lifelong Southern girl. Family Savvy was born from my desire to educate and inspire women to create welcoming homes for their families. My current passion is helping midlife women look, feel, and live their fullest lives.

Your recipes are known for being both approachable and delicious. What’s your secret to creating meals that are family-friendly yet still feel elevated?
I keep a few favorite comfort meals in the freezer so that I am always ready to entertain (even at the last minute). I don't save fine china just for special occasions, and I always try to have fresh flowers on the table. Finally, I have my famous chocolate Bundt cake on hand at all times because honestly, this makes every meal elevated!
What are the top three pantry staples you always keep stocked to make weeknight cooking easier?
I always keep my pantry stocked with jarred marinara for easy Italian meatballs or spaghetti, canned chili beans for easy taco or burrito bowls, and jarred tuna for my zesty tuna salad.
If someone is hosting last-minute guests, what’s your go-to recipe or entertaining hack that never fails?
I ALWAYS have three things in my freezer for an easy, last-minute meal. My baked ziti (or chicken tetrazzini), a loaf of Costco’s Rosemary Parmesan Bread, and one of my Bundt cakes. All that is left is a salad, and I have a company-worthy meal!
Many of your followers look to you for inspiration in the kitchen. Who are some of your own biggest culinary or lifestyle influences?
I was blessed to sit at the feet of my grandmothers, both of whom were consummate Southern hostesses. I also particularly love Paula Deen and Ina Garten.
When you’re hosting, what are a few of your go-to crowd-pleasing dishes?
Chicken Tetrazzini and Baked Ziti are my top two favorites for crowd-pleasing, make-ahead meals.
From a chic dinner party to a weekend brunch and a festive fall soirée—what Mestiza pieces from the new fall collection would you choose for each occasion?
For a weekend brunch, I would choose the Fiona or Lucrezia mini dresses. The Tamara mini dress in chestnut would be my choice for a chic dinner party. For a festive Fall soiree, I would choose the embellished Manhattan shift paired with fabulous sandals.
Style and flavor often go hand in hand—what autumn color palette and seasonal tastes are inspiring you right now?
I am loving all the deep chocolate browns and ivy greens.
What do you love most about the Mestiza brand?
I love Mestiza’s well-tailored designs and high quality fabrics. Every piece makes a statement!
How do you feel when you wear Mestiza?
When wearing Mestiza, I feel “best dressed” and ready for any occasion!
