Concepting a collection from start to finish is as much an emotional journey as it is a creative one because the inspiration always ties back to one thing, legacy.

All Mestiza dresses are meant to be keepsakes, designed to be passed down and timeless. When I co-founded Mestiza almost 6 years ago, I set out to design pretty, yet sophisticated, dresses that reminded me of a woman who had passed her sense of style and relic of dresses down to me, my grandmother, my Abueling.

In the formative days of Mestiza, I designed the Shimmy Tassel Dress with her legacy in mind. By recalling blurry memories of her that merged with sepia toned photographs and those vintage dresses as inspiration, I sat pinning together the trims with tassels myself in my living room. I couldn't have imagined then that in the years to come so many amazing women would fall in love with this tassel dress and wear it when celebrating important life moments... weddings, baptisms, vow renewals, and baby showers... A unique piece for the memorable moments shared with special people. In moments of gratitude and reflection, I like to think my own grandmother would have wanted this Mestiza heritage style in every color, and that she would have loved to see the way her own legacy and memory has been passed down not just to me, but to all of you as well.
