A seasonal briefing on what we’re wearing, watching, and talking about now.
September has always been fashion’s unofficial New Year. The city fills up again, invitations begin arriving, and after months of dressing for the weather, we remember the pleasure of dressing for ourselves.
So, in the spirit of September issues everywhere, we made one of our own.
The Mestiza September Issue is the first edition of a new seasonal editorial series collecting the people, opinions, references, and pieces currently shaping our world.
Inside: Fall 2026 fashion trends, notes from our founders, current muses, style icons, and a few ideas worth carrying into the season ahead.

THE FALL 2026 FASHION TRENDS SHAPING THE SEASON
This season, our forecast comes down to three things: texture, shape, and movement.
The evidence appeared across the Fall 2026 collections: fabrics with visible depth, silhouettes returning to the body, and details that refuse to sit still.
TEXTURE: DUPIONI AND JACQUARD
Fall calls for fabrics with presence.
Dupioni brings natural variation and dimension to a polished silhouette, while jacquard turns print into something almost tactile. Both catch the light differently as they move, making even a clean shape feel considered.
Across the Mestiza Fall 2026 Collection, these textures appear in sculpted dresses, matching sets, and event-ready pieces designed to be remembered.
SHAPE: THE RETURN OF THE CINCHED WAIST
The waist returns.
After seasons of deliberately oversized dressing, shape is finding its way back through pintucking, corseted construction, thoughtful tailoring, and carefully placed seams.
It is less about restriction than intention. A defined waist gives a garment proportion and the woman wearing it presence.

Jackie Kennedy and Dolly Parton offer two entirely different answers to the same question: what makes a woman memorable?

FALL FAVORITES FROM OUR RESIDENT STYLISTS
The collection may be new, but a few pieces are already becoming showroom favorites.
For daytime, the Isabel Short Sleeve Cardigan and Demi Midi Skirt make a polished Evergreen Lattice set, while the Tuxedo Crop Kick Pants offer a sharper take on print.

FALL STYLE NOTES FROM OUR FOUNDERS
Fall in New York comes with its own dress code, although Louisa Rechter is less interested in following it than finding the pieces that keep up.
As she writes in her Founder’s Style Guide, “New York ‘peacocks’ this time of year.”
Her philosophy on building a useful Fall wardrobe is equally direct: “You don’t really need a lot… you need the right pieces that can work together with ease.”

FOUNDER'S GUIDE TO FALL - BLOG
For Co-Founder and Creative Director Alessandra Perez-Rubio, Fall has historically presented a more complicated question.
“Designing for fall has always been a bit of a mystery to me, a puzzle I could never quite find all the pieces to.”
Mestiza has become synonymous with brightness and saturated color, while Alessandra personally finds herself wanting something darker once the weather changes.
“I personally want a darker, moodier wardrobe once the weather changes, but does the Mestiza girl?”
Fall 2026 became her answer: richer color, unexpected combinations, and prints that question the usual house rules without losing the joy that makes them Mestiza.

THE LAST WORD
The point of The September Issue was never to prescribe a single way to dress for Fall. It was to collect the ideas making us want to get dressed again.
Borrow Jackie’s restraint or Dolly’s conviction. Commit to the print. Define the waist. Add the tassel. Wear the formal gown informally.
