Where are you from and how did you get started in the custom upholstery and home design business?

I’m originally from Alabama, and before launching Mae Davis Interiors, I spent years in the world of finance and investments. It was a career that taught me discipline, vision, and how to build something that lasts. But deep down, I always had a creative side — a love for fabrics, patterns, and the way a room can make you feel. Taking a leap of faith, I started Mae Davis from the ground up rooted in thoughtful detail and intention, blending my business background with a lifelong love of design and textiles.

What drew you to the Rhonda Convertible™ Midi Dress, and how does this versatile style reflect your approach to personal style and fashion?

I love that the Rhonda Convertible Dress is both classic and clever — two words I also use to describe my design philosophy. The silhouette is timeless, yet the convertible details make it feel fresh and adaptable.

In your experience as an interior designer, how do fashion and home decor influence one another?

They’re both expressions of personal style — just in different forms. The same way you might mix textures or patterns in an outfit, you can do the same in a room. Our motto this year is pattern play and honestly not just this year, always! The same way we do this with interiors we find ourselves doing it with our own expression of personal style! I often find inspiration for color pallets or pattern combinations through fashion!

What advice would you give to homeowners looking to refresh their interiors through custom upholstery, furniture design, or other home updates?

Start with one piece that you love — maybe it’s a bold fabric, a favorite chair, or even a family heirloom — and build around it. Don’t be afraid of pattern or color — when done thoughtfully, they can create warmth and depth. And always prioritize quality craftsmanship; investing in well-made pieces pays off in both comfort and longevity!

As a founder in the interior design and custom upholstery space, what has been the most fulfilling part of building your business?

The most rewarding part has been watching ideas come to life — from a fabric swatch to a finished room. I love seeing clients light up when they walk into a space that feels exactly like them. It never gets old! Building Mae Davis Interiors has also allowed me to partner with incredible American manufacturers and artisans who share my passion for quality. It’s a joy to create pieces that are not only beautiful, but built to last.

If you were to style yourself in three looks from the Mestiza Fall Collection, how would you pair them with three interiors you’ve designed?

A tailored, structured look like the Elliana Printed Midi Dress in printed ivory and blue would pair perfectly with a layered living room — think classic florals, tailored upholstery, and a hint of blue-and-white.

A romantic, feminine dress like the Valencia Mini Dress in Jardin Rose would match a bedroom full of soft greens, scalloped details, and draped linen panels.

A bold evening look like the Elena Tailored Top paired with the Taylor Pant would feel right at home in a dramatic dining room — lacquered walls, vintage brass lighting, and patterned drapery that makes a statement.

As we head into the holiday season, what are some of your favorite family traditions, and how are you preparing your home and entertaining spaces this year?

The holidays are some of my favorite moments to slow down and gather with friends and family. I love hosting cozy dinner parties and game nights — evenings filled with good food, laughter, and a table set with thoughtful details. Each year, I pick a new color palette for my Christmas decor. Last year was red and pink, which felt playful and fun, but this season I’m craving simplicity — soft greens and whites with touches of warm, natural tones. While I love a richly detailed interior, there’s something timeless about an elegant, understated tree with simple lights and ornaments.

What do you love most about the Mestiza brand?

I have several Mestiza dresses. I’m always drawn to their bold patterns and effortless femininity. They strike the perfect balance between comfort and sophistication — pieces I can style for so many moments, whether it’s a fancy dinner with my husband or a busy install day paired with sneakers. I love the versatility!

How do you feel when you wear Mestiza? And how are you styling the Rhonda Convertible Midi Dress?

When I wear Mestiza, I feel polished yet effortless — like I can move through the day with whatever it may bring! I’m styling the Rhonda Convertible Midi Dress with simple gold jewelry and a ballet flat for daytime meetings, then switching to statement earrings and heels for evening. It’s the kind of piece that transitions as easily as my day does — from studio to showroom to dinner.
